how to crochet a hibird

How I made him↑

what you need

*or, if you can't find buttons, you can use black wool and stitch on the eyes*
Body
start off with 6 chains and forming a ring.
for those that have never crocheted anything before, this is a good video of how to start here : http://www.ehow.com/video_2082117_instructions-start-any-crochet-project.html
1st round: single-crochet once around to make 6tr in circle.
this video shows very well, h0w to single-crochet and which hole to go through. (just keep going in the circle, and not flat) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqhaQQajt0U&feature=channel

2nd round: single crochet twice in each hole to make 12tr (increase 6)
3rd round: crochet in every hole, and twice in every second hole, to make 18tr (increase 6)
4th round: crochet in every hole, twice in every third hole, to make 24tr (increase 6)
5th round: crochet in every hole, twice in every fourth hole, to make 30tr (increase 6)
6th round: crochet in every hole, twice in every 5th hole, to make 36tr (increase 6)
7th round: crochet once around, to keep 36tr (+-0tr)
8th round: crochet once around, to keep 36tr(+-0tr)
9th round: crochet once around, to keep 36tr(+-0tr)
10th round: crochet in every hole, but skipping every 6th hole, to make 30tr (decrease 6)
11th round: crochet in every hole, but skipping every 5th hole, to make 24tr (decrease 6)
12th round: crochet in every hole, but skipping every 4th hole, to make 18tr (decrease 6)
13th round: crochet in every hole, but skipping every 3rd hole, to make 12tr (decrease 6)
*insert filling*
14th round: crochet in every hole, but skipping every 2nd hole, to make 6tr (decrease 6)
15th round: crochet in every hole, and tie off at the end of circle.

wings
start off with 6 chains and forming a ring. (same as start of body)
1st round: single-crochet once around to make 6tr in circle.
2nd round: single crochet twice in each hole to make 12tr (increase 6)
3rd round: crochet in every hole, and twice in every second hole, to make 18tr (increase 6)
tie off at end of third round. Then pinch 2 sides of the circle,(as photo) shape in teardrop shape, and stitch sids together.
leave about 10cm of yarn before cutting off.
* make 2 of these

tail
start with 6 chains, as here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqhaQQajt0U&feature=channel but don't add the extra chain at the end of row (to decrease 1tr every row.)
1st row: 6tr
2nd row: 5tr
3rd row: 4
4th row: 3
5th row: 2 tie off

beak
use orange yarn
start with 8 chains
1st row: 8tr tie off

finishing off
stitch all of parts onto the body. (quite self-explanatory, so I'll skip this bit)
and tada! we're finished!!
